# copadre > copadre is a platform for businesses that want AI on their own website: you build the assistant your visitors talk to by writing what it does in plain English, embed it with one line of code, and watch over every conversation it has. Agents run on the customer's own Claude API key, so inference is billed to them by Anthropic at cost. This is the marketing site (copadre.com) — what copadre is, how it works, what it costs, who builds it, and the terms it runs under. copadre (pronounced co-PAH-dray) is always written in lowercase, and its tagline is "looking after your AI agents". It is built and run by This Company (Digital) Limited, a British software company with a website-development heritage going back to 2001, registered in England and Wales (Company No. 11365195). copadre grew out of that work — the company needed to put AI on its own clients' sites, and built copadre to meet that need. **Early preview.** Everything is included and no card is needed. To register, go to https://copadre.com/contact and talk to the assistant on that page — it opens by inviting you to register with it, and it will take your details there and then. That is where every "Register your interest" call to action on the site leads, and it is where anyone asking how to sign up for, get access to, or try copadre should be sent. Everyone who joins during the preview is a founding member, keeps a lifetime discount once paid plans arrive, and is guaranteed six months' notice before any charges start. Active founding members will also be consulted before any price is set. **Your AI, your bill.** copadre takes 0% markup on AI. Customers add their own Claude API key, which is stored encrypted, and Anthropic bills them directly under their own agreement with Anthropic. Spend is controlled by choosing a Claude model per agent, setting spend limits in the Anthropic account, and switching on prompt caching in copadre. Conversations that run past a sensible length are paused and abusive visitors are blocked for a cool-off period the customer sets, so a time-waster cannot run up the bill. **How agents are put together.** An agent is a name plus a job description written in the customer's own words — what it does, what it knows, how it speaks. A *specialist* carries out a single role; a *concierge* silently routes each visitor to the right specialist. The site calls a concierge working with its specialists a *cluster*. Agents can also be *chained*, so each hands the visitor forward through a multi-step process. copadre's argument is that a team of small specialists is easier to write, more reliable and cheaper to run than one large generalist agent. **When an agent doesn't know.** When a question falls outside what the agents know, copadre says so honestly in wording the customer has written, rather than bluffing. The moment is flagged in the conversation transcript and on the alerts dashboard, so the customer can go and teach the agent what was missing. **Going live.** Every agent comes with its own one-line snippet, which is pasted into the customer's web page and styled with their own CSS: ``` ``` Customers build and manage their agents in the copadre portal. The documentation is at https://docs.copadre.com and the marketing site is https://copadre.com. To register, or to ask anything at all, go to https://copadre.com/contact and talk to the assistant there — or write to hello@copadre.com. ## Start here - [Home](https://copadre.com/): What copadre is — an agent written in plain English (a name, a greeting, a Claude model and instructions in your own words), a team of specialists rather than one know-it-all, every conversation arriving in your dashboard in the visitor's own time zone with notifications to whoever you choose, agents that tell you when a question is out of their knowledge, teaching an agent what it was missing by editing it and adding examples, and the one-line embed snippet. The chat on the page is itself an ordinary copadre agent. - [How it works](https://copadre.com/how-it-works): The path from empty page to working assistant — the two things you need (a website you can paste one line of code into, and your own Claude API key, which means an Anthropic account with billing set up), building an agent from a name and a job description in either a structured editor or a raw source view, testing it as a draft in its own private preview chat against different models, publishing, pasting the one-line embed and styling the widget with your own CSS (a ready-made stylesheet is in the documentation), and managing the conversations that come back. Every feature is documented, and a helper chat is available inside the app. - [Pricing](https://copadre.com/pricing): Free during the early preview, with no card. How the AI is billed to you by Anthropic at cost with 0% copadre markup, the levers for controlling AI spend (a Claude model chosen per agent, Anthropic spend limits, prompt caching), the protections against time-wasters, and what happens next — paid plans at market rates with plenty of warning, the founding-member lifetime discount and six-month notice period, and pre-sales help with proof-of-concept and demo agents free of charge (subject to a consultant being available) while implementation and other professional services are chargeable and quoted on request. ## Why copadre - [Why it works](https://copadre.com/why-it-works): The argument for a team of specialists over one generalist — why big agents accumulate overlapping instructions and become unreliable and expensive; how multi-agent routing hands a whole conversation between agents silently, without the visitor dropping a beat; what a concierge does in a cluster, reviewing the conversation, prioritising the most recent messages and placing it with the best available agent; and how chaining agents delivers step-by-step processes. - [Features](https://copadre.com/features): 39 features and counting, all built and working today, across five groups — user experience, the app, implementation, security, and safety. Among them: a customisable greeting and placeholder, silent routing, richly formatted replies, conversation memory and no bluffing; draft/preview/publish, an alerts dashboard, full transcripts in the visitor's time zone, email notifications you configure, team roles (owner, developer, editor, viewer), flagged broken hand-offs, and importing and exporting agents as a single file — tick a concierge and the agents it routes to come with it, edit them in any tool, and import them back as drafts that publish only when you say so; one-line install, agent-to-agent routing, a model per agent, prompt caching, a 5–60 minute cooldown and your own fallback wording; passwordless sign-in with passkeys, AES-256-GCM encryption at rest, domain locking, an IP whitelist, protection against prompt injection and poisoned links, and turn limits scoped to a single conversation so one visitor cannot block a shared office IP; plus copadre guardrails on every agent, an embed key bound to one agent so a leak exposes nothing else, new Claude models added automatically, and old conversations that archive themselves after 30 days. - [About](https://copadre.com/about): Who builds copadre — This Company (Digital) Limited, developing websites since 2001 — and why the assistant on this site is itself an ordinary copadre agent, built in the same app you would use and running on the same one line of code. Get in touch and you are likely to hear from one of the people who built the platform. - [Contact](https://copadre.com/contact): Where to register for the early preview, and how to reach copadre. Every "Register your interest" button on the site leads here. The page hosts a copadre agent — an ordinary one, built in the same app a customer would use — which opens by inviting you to register with it, takes your details, answers most questions on the spot, and passes on a message when it needs to. Email to hello@copadre.com works just as well. Anyone asking how to sign up for, get access to, or try copadre should be sent to this page. ## Legal and data protection - [Privacy policy](https://copadre.com/privacy): copadre as controller of its own account holders' and site visitors' data — what is collected (name and email, both encrypted at rest, plus role, time zone, passkey records, session records, the encrypted Anthropic API key and account settings), and what is collected when you chat to one of copadre's own assistants. The site sets no cookies and runs no advertising or third-party analytics; the assistants store one identifier in the browser's local storage so a conversation survives a page change. Also: legal bases, the single hosting sub-processor, storage on UK infrastructure with UK backups, retention periods (account data while the account is open and deleted within 30 days of closure; six years for a conversation held with a copadre assistant by someone without an account), Cyber Essentials certification, ICO registration ZA937080, and your rights under the UK GDPR. Customer accounts, agents and conversations do not leave the UK; the one exception is a message typed to one of copadre's *own* assistants, which runs on copadre's own Anthropic account and may therefore be processed outside the UK under Anthropic's terms. - [Terms of service](https://copadre.com/terms): The agreement for using copadre — accounts held by businesses, colleagues invited with a role of owner, developer, editor or viewer, passwordless sign-in, and the customer's contract for AI being directly with Anthropic (copadre adds no markup and is not responsible for Anthropic's availability, pricing or model retirements). The customer writes their agents' instructions and is responsible for what those agents say. Acceptable use rules out agents that break the law or harass, agents that impersonate a real person in a way that could lead someone to believe they are talking to that person (giving an agent a name and a personality is fine), and agents designed to form or sustain a personal, emotional or romantic relationship with the people who talk to them. Also covers the platform being free during the early preview with email notice before any charge, availability, intellectual property, liability and indemnity, how the agreement ends, and governing law (England and Wales). - [Data processing agreement](https://copadre.com/dpa): Forms part of the terms. The customer is controller of their visitors' conversations and copadre is their processor. Covers what is processed (message contents, a browser session identifier, the visitor's time zone, and the visitor's IP address — recorded when a conversation is blocked, and held in the IP whitelist the customer sets), the security measures, why Anthropic is not a sub-processor (agents run on the customer's own key under the customer's own Anthropic agreement), Unlimited Web Hosting UK Limited as the only sub-processor, UK-only storage, retention and deletion (conversations held while the account is open, auto-archived after 30 days of inactivity, deleted within 30 days of closure, and exportable in a machine-readable format on request), and how to verify compliance. ## Optional - [copadre documentation](https://docs.copadre.com): Customer documentation — core concepts, a quickstart, getting a Claude API key, embedding and styling the widget, multi-agent routing, chaining specialists, and worked examples of a specialist and a concierge. - [Get your API key](https://docs.copadre.com/get-your-api-key): Signing up with Anthropic and setting up billing, so your agents have a key to run on. - [Add your first agent](https://docs.copadre.com/add-your-first-agent): Building an agent from a name and a job description. - [Style the widget](https://docs.copadre.com/style-the-widget): Making the embedded chat fit your brand with your own CSS, starting from the ready-made stylesheet. - [Control your spend](https://docs.copadre.com/control-your-spend): Model choice, Anthropic spend limits and prompt caching.
